The minnows had lost a golden opportunity against the big fish, when they misfired the shots. From a tottering position, the gloveman had once again rescued the Kangaroo team. I think except Glenn McGrath all major players of Australia were there. I guess McGrath was away from the team to take care of his ailing wife. I remember Ravi Shastri was very impressed with his technique and so was me, because he was quite different from the usual acceleration and instead he was dexterous in his defence and later catching in. Also you won’t see Jeff Thomson frequently for cricket broadcast commentary in television channels for international matches. As always I was still in front of the television even after the Aussies had lost more than half of their side, because Gilly was still there. It won’t be a casual pragmatism if I say that Gilly should be included as the wicket-keeper batsman in all formats of all-time best eleven, simply because he had shown his class and temperament many times, including against quality opponents in absolute dire straits.
